KOVEX, the production co-op in Rychnov nad Kněžnou originated at the foundation meeting held on 10 August 1992 and it was registered in the Commercial Register on 1 September 1992. The co-op had 67 founding members, the registered basic capital being at the amount of 67 TCZK. Total co-op equity - lands, buildings, machinery, equipment and inventory - was 22 million CZK. The product range of the new established co-op KOVEX was changed due to the changes of the social situation. The formerly manufactured products - sidecars called SIDE-CAR were produced mainly for the former Soviet Union and it was extremely difficult to substitute them by a new product programme. Their manufacture formed about 75 % of the production and the articles were mostly produced on one-purpose made machines. The new founded co-op faced not only product difficulties but also those of the staff employment. The number of employees was gradually reduced and it went on until 1996 when the co-op concluded the first contracts to manufacture the products for the Swedish concern IKEA. The production of the goods for this customer required to change the co-op technology including the employees´ specialization.
